US to Propose HFC Amendment to Montreal Protocol

At the November meeting of the Montreal Protocol parties in Egypt, the US, Canada, and Mexico will propose an amendment to the Protocol to include an 85% phasedown of HFCs by 2033 for developed countries and 2043 for developing countries. If adopted, the US would begin an HFC phasedown in 2013 based on 2004-2006 production and consumption baselines. HARDI will be participating in today's meeting of the Alliance for Responsible Atmospheric Policy which will include representatives from the US Department of State and the US EPA to discuss the proposed amendment in more detail.
