Perhaps It's Time for HARDI to Form One Big Union
The reports of a special deal being cut for union "cadillac" health plans during these not-so-transparent healthcare bill negotiations are frankly quite disturbing. I'm not sure if we've ever experienced a time in modern US politics when the executive and legislative branches were so blantantly willing to selectively pick winners and losers. In 2008, only 12.1% of all employed US workers were union members, yet this 12% will now be entitled to special exemptions and treatment in a massive healthcare overhaul likely to be detrimental to most of the remaining 87.9% of the country's workforce. This isn't about the merits of unionization, it is about equal and fair treatment which was, at one time ironically, the reason unions were originally formed.
